NITROUS Class
This class will be taught by Monte Smith who is the Motorsports Technical Representative for
Nitrous Oxide Systems..... Monte has tuned everything from 75HP shot plate systems to Pro Mods
with 3 stage Foggers and knows how to do it correctly without hurting parts.......Right now, he's
tuning the fastest drag radial nitrous car to 7.90's in the 1/4!!! He will cover all the basics, blow all
of the wive's tales out of the water, and help you get the most out of your nitrous system........ How
many times have you, or have you seen someone "step up" their system and the car runs the same
or even slows down??? There's a reason for that.........How much have you spent blowing up and
repairing your motor??? Monte can save you money, answer any all of your questions, and help
you get the most out of your combo........You will learn a LOT in the class.
Each Nitrous Class will cost $500/student.
The next nitrous class will be September 27th.
Smothers Supercars Engine Class
This class will teach theory and function of race oriented engines and focus on engines with carburetors and distributors. All principles will apply to any engine. Upon completion of the class, students will have the basic understanding of the proper method to assemble and tune an engine. This will be a “hands on” class. Each student will time a motor on my test stand before firing it up, adjust valves, and degree a camshaft.
Basic Intro to Engine Building and Blue Printing
Basic introduction to engine building, explanation of all parts and special tools needed to build an engine. Students will understand the importance of blue printing.
Component Explanation
Explanation in detail of all parts of an engine, their functions, proper conditions, and different types for specific applications.
Camshafts
Instruction will include the different types of cams and the proper matching of camshafts to engines for each application. Each student will leave the class having degreed a camshaft and have confidence that they can do it on their own.
Push Rods and Valve Train
Instruction will include an explanation of the different types of rocker arms, rocker arm geometry, how to measure pushrod length. Each student will learn and be confident in adjusting valves.
Carbs and Intake
Instruction will include an explanation of different types of carburetors and intakes and the matching of size to engine for proper operation. Students will learn about air/fuel ratio meters and how to use them to maximize their combinations. We will use an LM-1 meter on an engine that‘s running on my test stand.
Engine initial startup
Instruction will be given on the proper way to fire an engine for the first time. Students will also learn how to time a motor for the first time and how to curve a distributor. Students will also learn how to recognize how much timing a motor wants at idle and wide open throttle.
All tools for this class will be provided by our instructors.
There are no prerequisites for the course. The class will be approximately 8 hours. Each topic will be given enough time for complete comprehension as necessary.
Students will be reviewed on each phase in addition to a question and answer period after each session to ensure complete understanding.
Class sizes will range from a minimum of 6 people to a maximum of 10.
Cost of the class is $300 and must be prepaid. We accept Master Card and Visa. Call or email for prices for me to load up and come to your town.
